Tech task #7: Visual Literacy
Hello readers (Mostly Mike),
This tech task is onnnnnnnn (Drum roll pleaseeeeeeeeeeee), you guessed it! Visual Literacy! I am looking into the outbreak of its popularity and its increasing importance.
You don't need to be in a school classroom to see the outbreak in popularity of visual literacy. If you are sitting on your couch at home, sipping a refreshing beverage, and watching the Jets game you will likely see a form of visual literacy during commercial breaks. For the exact same reason why they are effective in the classroom is why these massive companies are using very similar visual techniques during commercials. You can see an example of it in the photo below with Ford commercials having visual cues for the audience to more effectively process the information and retain it for longer.
What is an infographic, and why are they effective?
An infographic is a type of visual literacy technique that uses a collection of images, charts, and with minimal text that gives an easy-to-understand overview of a topic. Take a peak at this near inception-like poster of an inforgraphic explaining why infographics are so effective.
The main take away point that make infographics effective is that humans are visual creatures - just seeing the pictures heightens the reader's interest before the information is even processed. Another reason why infographics are so effective is because of the increased retention for the reader - it's easier to remember a simple symbol/picture that is associated with the meaning of it as opposed to sentences or words. This is what makes them so effective, no matter if its in a school classroom or not. It should be obvious that yes, I would use infographics in the classroom. I'll find a couple of infographics that I think would be effective in my potential classrooms.

Here is my infographic that I made using Piktochart.com: (I couldn't figure out how to paste it on here, so this will save me a lot of time)
Thank you for your time as always, take care,
