Week #3: Online Learning
This week in class we had the privilege to have another host come and give us a presentation. This time we had Chris, whos last name I cannot remember, who was a directer of online course development. In this class we got to talk about the benefits (and the negatives) of education from a far. I have never actually taken a course online or distantly, so it was interesting to think from their perspectives.

So the obvious and main benefit for web based courses is that you have access to the course content from anywhere. As long as you have internet connection you should be good to go. There is also likely options to download the courses contents while having internet, so that you can access important stuff from it with or without internet connection. Having courses online opens up many different options for lectures. These online courses can be synchronous - which is a fancy term to represent an online class where the students and the teacher need to be on at the same time to have a live lecture. They could also be asynchronous - when you do not need to go on a class at a specific time and date, because students are given a time frame to connect with their class.Or you may, like the class we are taking for this course have a combination of them both. Below is a table that I found online which relays the Traditional Education and Online Learning effectively and more efficient for the readers to see.

We also touched a little on some learning styles - Blended Learning and Flipped Learning.

Blended learning is a learning interface that involves both online learning and face-to-face instruction. Both are used together to provide a more comprehensive way of learning.
Flipped learning is when the students do the learning of something BEFORE coming to class. So the student may watch a video, read a text, or participate in another form of a learning exercise before coming to class. That way students get to apply their learnings in the classroom and expand their thoughts more creatively and critically while having the support of their peer and the teacher present.
What do you guys think of these two learning interfaces, and have you had experience (first or second/third hand) in dealing with either of them? Let me know with comments below!
Until next time folks, and thanks for tuning in on this weeks Internet For Unprepared Educators blog!

Online learning has endless posibilities, the uses are very promising for learning from a distance.
